Test Proactively

Timeline
If you develop symptoms of STIs you should test as soon as you can. If you know you have been in contact with someone with an STI you may be able to access treatment (at the same time as testing) so speak to one of our healthcare professionals.
STIs can often take a while to show up in tests, so if you test too early you may receive a false negative result. For chlamydia and gonorrhoea, wait 2 weeks from your last sexual activity (or from when you think you may have been exposed to an infection) before you take a test. For syphilis and Hepatitis B it's up to 12 weeks following your last sexual activity before these infections can be detected or ruled out, and for HIV it's 45 days.
Change in circumstances
You should consider taking an STI test for any of these reasons:
New sexual partner
More than one current partner
Your regular partner has other partner(s)
Having condomless penetrative sex
Experiencing STI symptoms
You are a contact of an STI, eg. a recent partner reports they have been infected
Test timings
You should not engage in sexual activity if you know / suspect you have been in contact with someone with an STI or if you have STI symptoms. Just be patient and we’ll get your results back to you within 2 to 5 working days.
Treatment
Sexually transmitted infections are common and most of them are easy to treat. If you test positive for an STI, don’t panic, we’ll provide you with all of the information you need to know about the next steps and treatment.
Antibiotics
Most sexually transmitted infections can be cured with antibiotics. If you test positive for an STI our pharmacy partner can provide antibiotics if necessary.
